Updates and Volunteer Opportunities

News Updates, January 20th, 2010:
Here is an article from the BBC with more information on today's aftershock and the relief efforts:

Hope for Haiti Telethon:
On Friday, January 22nd, George Clooney will host a commercial free telethon event. Wyclef will be broadcasting from NYC, and Anderson Cooper will be broadcasting from Haiti. Oprah's site (I know...) has more info. For 48 hours, you can also download Rihanna's rendition of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" and/or Maxwell's "Fistful of Tears." Proceeds will benefit Hope for Haiti Now.

IMPACT YOUR WORLD:
Here is an updated, comprehensive list of organizations involved in the relief efforts, broken down into the following categories:

-Providing Basic Needs
-Providing Shelter
-Providing Medical Aid
-Providing Food and Water
-Agencies accepting international currencies.

Many people have been asking about service trips to Haiti. Organizations are mainly seeking medical professionals at the moment. An influx of untrained volunteers will place even greater strain on resources that are already scarce, such as food, water, shelter, etc; however, the site posted above does include organizations that are accepting applications for volunteers. Keep them in mind for the future! They also include places for you to volunteer your time in your community, working packaging centers and phone banks.

The following comes from cnn.com. The link is posted above:
